OUR DIAMONDS
THE KIMBERLY PROCESS
DIAMONDS
At MAKIKO WAKITA we only use conflict-free diamonds in our jewelery and all our diamonds are only ever sourced from suppliers that comply with the Kimberley process.
In 2003, the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme was established to prevent "conflict diamonds" from entering the mainstream rough diamond market. Conflict diamonds, also referred to as blood diamonds or war diamonds, are diamonds that originate from areas that are controlled by forces, factions or corrupt governments responsible for fuelling conflict and wars. The Kimberley Process works by ensuring that all transactions involving the sale and purchase of diamonds include clear statements guaranteeing that the diamonds are of ethical origin. All of the diamonds used in our jewelery are sourced from suppliers that comply with the Kimberly Process.
We also offer the option to use lab-grown diamonds in our pieces.
NATURAL DIAMONDS
Natural diamonds are made of highly organised carbon atoms and are formed over billions of years deep beneath the Earth's surface. Over the years, diamonds have become a symbol of love and commitment, and valued for their complexity, beauty and timelessness.
Diamonds are the hardest natural mineral substance. They are rated a ten on the Mohs scale of hardness, making them a perfect choice for a piece that is made to be worn for a lifetime.
Every diamond is beautiful in its own right, however there are four key factors that primarily determine its value: the 4Cs: color, cut, clarity, carat. At MAKIKO WAKITA, we offer a wide variety of diamond options to suit a range of budgets and preferences. We recommend balancing the quality of all elements within your specified budget.
CULTURED LAB GROWN DIAMONDS
Lab Grown Diamonds are just as real as diamonds that are mined from the earth. They have shape, size, color and clarity grades, just like Natural Diamonds. Both Natural and Lab Grown Diamonds have the same physical and chemical properties and both come with diamond certifications. In fact, professional jewelers and gemologists cannot tell the difference between a lab created diamond and a natural one just by looking at it with the naked eye. They will have to use a microscope to look for the tiny differences in its inclusions that indicate how it was formed.
OCEAN DIAMONDS
MAKIKO WAKITA proudly partners with OCEAN DIAMONDS: A new category of natural diamonds sourced from the ocean off the West Coast of South Africa.
